An IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) PAL card ( Powered Access License) is the ticket you need to prove competence on cherry pickers and scissor lifts. IPAF Training Courses cover individual Cherry Picker, Scissor Lift categories or can be combined. The IPAF MEWPS for Mangers is designed to give managers the skills and knowledge to safely control site operations involving cherry pickers and scissor lifts.

IPAF Equipment Categories for Training Courses and Qualifications
IPAF specifies categories for access equipment, each requiring individual training and qualifications.
Powered access equipment is often called a MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform). These come in in two basic types. "Boom" more commonly know as Cherry Pickers and "Vertical" commonly called Scissor Lifts.
Cherry Pickers (Boom) can be "static" or "mobile" the difference in operation of these means they are covered under different categories for training and qualifications
Scissors Lifts (Vertical) also covers telescopic masts and can be "static" or "mobile". Static Vertical or PAV (Push Around Vertical) are now covered under the Mobile Vertical training and by the new individal PAV category.
The IPAF 1a category covers static vertical lifts. These small lifts are very rare in the UK and have been superceded by the PAV equipment. Due to the lack of demand for training on this equipment we do not run category 1a courses.
A PAL card is issued to successful trainees these detail the equipment categories that the holder is qualified to use. A PAL card is often refereed to as a Cherry Picker Ticket or Scissor Lift Ticket.

Combined or Individual IPAF Training Courses
Cherry Picker and Scissor Lift Courses can be combined as 3a & 3b to cover mobile vertical and boom equipment.
The IPAF 1b and 3b Training Course covers all types of Cherry Picker both static and mobile.
3a and 3b provides the PAL card for Static Cherry Pickers and Mobile Vertical equipment including Scissor Lifts.

Static Boom IPAF (1b) - 1 day course (maximum 6 trainees per course). Vehicle mounted and trailer mounted cherry picker, boom lift training course.
Mobile Boom IPAF (3b) - 1 day course (maximum 6 trainees per course). Self propelled boom lift, cherry picker training course.
Scissor Lift, self propelled and static vertical Training Course for an IPAF PAL card (ticket)

Push Around Vertical IPAF (PAV) - 1/2 day course (maximum 8 trainees per course). Covering all relatively simple vertical lifts ( PAV - Push Around Vertical) man lifts and scissor lifts.

Mobile Vertical and Mobile Boom lifts IPAF (3a and 3b) - 1 day course (maximum 4 trainees per course). Training course for self propelled cherry pickers and scissor lifts and static vertical lifts.
Mobile Vertical and Static Boom lift IPAF (3a and 1b) - 1 day course (maximum 4 trainees per course). Training for all vertical lifts including scissor lifts and vehicle or trailer mounted cherry pickers
Static and Mobile Boom Lift IPAF (1b and 3b) - 1 day course (maximum 4 trainees per course). Both trailer mounted or ethical mounted cherry pickers and self propelled boom lifts are covered.
IPAF MEWPS for Mangers Training Course
The IPAF MEWPS for Managers Course is specially designed for supervisors and managers who are responsible for works where cherry pickers or scissor lifts are used.
- IPAF MEWPS for Managers - 1 day course (maximum 6 trainees per course). Giving managers all the knowledge they need to comply with regulations and to run a safe and productive site.
IPAF PAL+ Training Course
PAL+ is an additional course developed by IPAF for operators working in difficult or challenging environments. Operators will need to have completed the standard training before attending this course
- IPAF PAL+ Training Course - 1 day course (maximum ? trainees per course). Giving operators who use MEWPs in challenging environments additional training.
IPAF Harness Training
Harness Training ensures that operators have the knowledge they need to select and use the right harness for the job they are doing. A Harness is an essential piece safety equipment for it to be effective it has to used correctly.
- IPAF MEWP Harness Training Course - 1/2 day course (maximum 10 trainees per course). Harness and Lanyard training covers all aspects of selecting the correct equipment, using harnesses safely and keeping records.
